Public Discussion / Re: How and when did you discover Tribes?

Late grade 6 or early grade 7. A friend of mine showed it to me after finding out I was decent at any shooter. I thought it looked complicated but neat. Of course I was garbage the first time I played Tribes and that really through me for a loop, and made me want to get better. So I did... Countless hours and school days skipped later.

Public Discussion / How and when did you discover Tribes?

I was in middle school, over at a friend's house during Summer. His brother was playing on a Hewlett Packard upstairs, around the time Compaq and Dell were really popular desktops. Playing Rollercoaster base, he landed an MA during a duel and said "wow! that never happens." We thought Travis was a badass...after that I just had to play it and bought it a couple days later. I thought it was the coolest game I had ever seen.

It's not that her being a single mom is bad in itself relik, it's just a bad idea for me right now. Moms always have to put their kids first; you always come second, and they usually don't have much time to hang out if at all. I've got a long way to go in terms of my career. I've saved for years to go back to school. I'm also moving out of this city soon, and she will likely stay here. I know lots of great girls that are single moms, I just can't deal with that aspect right now. Another thing that makes me weary is that if things got serious and we got married, I would be financially responsible for another man's kid. And if there was a divorce, I would have to pay child support. None of this really matters though, cause there's lots of great girls out there. And I did try - she wasn't interested. It happens. Some things I say just come out the wrong way; I didn't intend for it to be a negative. Just a complication.  [/fo2c

Not too much new here.  I still haven't purchased a PC and therefore can't play Tribes.  Are there even any elite ren servers up?  I think I would play Tribes if I had a new PC. I'm using macbooks now anyways (mostly for work).

I'm playing some BF4 and BF1 on Xbox One but I suck with the joystick.  (tag: misterfritter)  I want to get a Xim4, but then I wonder why I don't just get a damn PC.

Outside of gaming, I've been married for 6 years now and we're moving this summer.  I work for a University in IT (Oracle PeopleSoft) and enjoy what I do for the most part.  As of last Friday, I was offered a new role within the department, which I'll be taking on soon.  I'm looking forward to that.

No kids (yet)...don't know if I'll ever have any.  I'm 31.. wait... 32? now.. shit.  Time flies!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers,

Good to play with u the other day after so many years - shame game crashed so quickly!  Having played Tribes Ascend I am not sure I can ever go back to this!  Cant believe how old fashioned the players looked; seemed very laggy too even when I host my own game.  let me know if you join TA and you can kick my arse there too - its all free (no point paying for the guns, you get good ones from outset and quickly get credits to buy the others).

That's bullshit Sun.  No offense.

Obviously you like her.  That's #1.

#2, why assume that her having a kid means it's a bad situation to get yourself into the middle of?  I can speak personally to this, without going into detail.  I *know* there are many great single mom's looking for a nice guy to be with.  If anything, I think being a single parent really puts things into perspective for people and makes them, if anything, better potential partners.

#3, It's not like she needs you now (she's raising a kid on her own), so it's not like if you become involved in her life, she's suddenly going to rely on you and cause you a bunch of pressure, etc etc (not saying that you were fearing this, but just pointing it out)

#4, It doesn't hurt to ask and see where things go.  You can also part amicably if things aren't working out and then you'd never have to worry about things being awkward at your local grocer.

I hope you reconsider and I hope it works out!

Cheers!
