    TribesProject 4

    TribesProject 4
    • It includes Tribes and all TROC maps. You don't need to have/add anything.
    • Keybinds and other preferences are in TRIBES/Config/autoexec.cs
    • You need WinRAR to unzip it.
    • UltraMonkey chat is included. No sounds tho.
    • You can download sounds here.
    • It's for Ren Spawn play only.
    • Thin base happyflag, hm.exe
    • plasmatic's ski/jumpjet (tweaked ski a bit)
    • 3 beacon boost bound to 1 key
    • A character skin pack of the best Tribes skins ever is included.
    • It is all 100% Tribes graphics, other than a couple of .bmp's.
    • "You use a Speed Booster." is muted. So are flag msgs, but you have a flag hud.
    • There's an item hud (healthkit, beacon, grenade) too.
    • Other huds are all default.
    • Click TRIBES/start.bat to launch hm.exe and Tribes.exe
    • It's optimized 100% for best performance.
    • Here it is: www.troc.us/TribesProject_v4.rar
      (84mb but the config's 16kb)
    • Certified good by Mat!n (will add your name here for 5$)
    • Credits are in files.
    • Resolution must be 1024x768 is a joke.
Change it to whatever in Tribes/config/autoexec.cs.
Suggestions I've received AFTER this release,
which will be in next release,
which will be a patch for the current one,
so you should download this and try it,
so you can tell me to add things to it,
so you will have the config you always wanted for TROC.
    • auto-ski toggle
    • black health/energy hud borders
    • dynamic hud positions based on screen resolution
    • flag msg popup
    • filter death msgs to hud
    • remove ultramonkey chat, people can add their own

Great job on this one, I'm using it for now on.

Thanks for not adding a bunch of shitty skins too, now my lag won't go up.

'Cause it's not overloaded with mounds of useless and ugly ass hudbot skins.

And the config itself is pretty light and simple.

    Re: TribesProject 4

Good work, although there are things that I dislike. I prefered the flag messages, and the sounds that came with them. I would also just disable the skies altogether or possibly create new ones, I just don't think there's enough contrast between players and just the sky itself.

    *EDIT*
If you want your flag sounds back, just comment out "%mute = true;" in the flag calls section of config/scripts/calls,

daftie, instead of doing this, try to get that cool idea of "build your own config" page to work

    Re: TribesProject 4

So basically Tribes as originally installed? yea that usually does produce better performance, but it's a 98 game, with current computers the only lag will be due to network problems not because of the graphics.

    Re: TribesProject 4

What you say about what it was developed for is true, but, it's also not designed for this hardware because it was designed for windows 98-era hardware and software. hudbot also causes performance issues and a graphical glitch that can be seen in the help and information section. As far as I know, Tribes is a single threaded process with virtually no real useful optimizations that give these computers an edge beyond raw power, and even then, that can be used inefficiently. The OpenGL support was secondary to the now almost entirely extinct 3dfx powered glide renderer, and as I understand it, even as a server it's pretty inefficient. So yes, you can load it down with much more by giving it 200x the processing power it requires, but it doesn't mean that you'll actually get nearly that much performance gain or efficiency.

^ yea, no matter how much power you put into it, the game can only use so much of it.

    Re: TribesProject 4

Well it doesn't really need to be designed to take advantage of new hardware because as it is, a single core processor with 2GHz or less will run this game without any slowdown, even with Vista, if you have 1GB (only needed for OS overhead in this case), the game won't suffer any slowdowns. Optimizations are not necessary, if you simply use more processing power, the game won't have a problem, even if it's not used complete efficiency. If anybody has any problems with this game, they should check their computer quite closely. Personally I'd rather have new skins and terrains.

I used to play tribes on a pentium 1 133mhz with 64 megs of ram on AOL dialup with no graphics card.. upgraded to 177 mhz with a voodoo1 and 128 megs of ram, and I was blown away.. hahaha. The good ol' days.

I used it for a couple other mods, unfortunately it looks like daftie removed some of the projectile trails for space, So I guess it's designed for ren.

Yeah, I have no idea why you would have to remove something so basic for performance or filesize. Kinda went overboard.

    Re: TribesProject 4

    um, what?

if you delete the config and skins folders, it's just default Tribes + LT/DOX/OC maps.
